Frequently asked questions
Is qSOFA the same as full SOFA?
No. qSOFA (quick SOFA) uses only 3 bedside parameters as a screen. Full SOFA requires lab values (PaO₂, platelets, bilirubin, MAP, GCS, creatinine) and is used in ICU settings.
Does qSOFA replace SIRS?
Sepsis-3 (2016) replaced SIRS-based definitions with SOFA-based criteria. qSOFA is more specific but less sensitive than SIRS — use clinical judgment alongside.
