How Much Exercise Supports Overall Health?
The World Health Organization recommends that adults complete 150–300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity, or 75–150 minutes of vigorous activity, each week. Adults should also perform muscle-strengthening activities involving major muscle groups on two or more days per week and reduce prolonged sedentary time.
People who are inactive can begin with manageable sessions and increase duration and intensity gradually. Anyone with chest pain, unexplained fainting, severe breathlessness or an unstable medical condition should seek clinical advice before starting strenuous exercise. Even when immediate cognitive effects are modest, regular movement remains an important component of disease prevention and general well-being.
