Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between 1-minute and 5-minute Apgar?
1-minute reflects intrauterine state; 5-minute reflects effectiveness of any resuscitation efforts. 5-minute Apgar is more predictive of long-term outcome.
Should low Apgar predict cerebral palsy?
Low Apgar alone is poor predictor of long-term neurodevelopment. Persistently low Apgar (≤3 at 5+ min) combined with other markers carries more weight.
